Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1267 (1999) concerning Al-Qaida and the Taliban and associated individuals and entities Briefing The Chair of the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1267 (1999) concerning Al-Qaida and the Taliban and associated individuals and entities, H.E. Mr. Peter Wittig (Germany), and the Coordinator of the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team, Mr. Richard Barrett, will hold an open briefing for interested Member States, on Thursday, 23 June 2011, at 1.15 p.m. in Conference Room 2 (NLB). The briefing will provide an update on the work of the Committee, in particular on the successor resolutions to Security Council resolution 1904 (2009) as well as on its consideration of delisting requests from individuals subject to the Security Councils relevant sanctions measures submitted through the Office of the Ombudsperson. The Chair and the Monitoring Team look forward to this mutually beneficial dialogue with Member States and will be pleased to answer any questions that representatives of Member States may wish to raise at this briefing.

6560th meeting The situation in Somalia Report of the Secretary-General on the modalities for the establishment of specialized Somali anti-piracy courts (S/2011/360) The agenda was adopted without objection. The President, with the consent of the Council, invited the representative of Somalia, at his request, to participate in the consideration of the item without the right to vote, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Charter and rule 37 of the Councils provisional rules of procedure. In accordance with the understanding reached in the Councils prior consultations, the President, with the consent of the Council, extended an invitation under rule 39 of the Councils provisional rules of procedure to Ms. Patricia OBrien, Under-SecretaryGeneral for Legal Affairs and Legal Counsel of the United Nations. The Council began its consideration of the item and heard a briefing by Ms. OBrien.

Letter from the President of the Security Council to the President of the General Assembly (A/65/865) Draft resolution (A/65/L.80)

The representative of Gabon, also the President of the Security Council, made a statement, in the course of which he introduced draft resolution A/65/L.80. The General Assembly adopted draft resolution A/65/L.80 (resolution 65/282). The President of the General Assembly announced that H.E. Mr. Ban Ki-moon had been appointed the Secretary-General of the United Nations for a second term of office beginning on 1 January 2012 and ending on 31 December 2016. The President of the General Assembly made a statement. Statements were made by the representatives of Senegal (on behalf of the African States), Kuwait (on behalf of the Asian States), the Republic of Moldova (on behalf of the Eastern European States), the Plurinational State of Bolivia (on behalf of the Latin American and Caribbean States), Israel (on behalf of Western European and other States) and the United States (as host country). H.E. Mr. Kim Sung-Hwan, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea, made a statement.

The Special Committee decided to accede to the requests. The Chair drew attention to a working paper, prepared by the Secretariat contained in document A/AC.109/2011/14*, and to draft resolution A/AC.109/2011/L.7. In accordance with the decision taken at its 3rd meeting, statements were made by The Honourable Roger Edwards and The Honourable Dick Sawle of the Legislative Assembly of the Falkland Islands, and by Ms. Mara Anglica del Carmen Vernet and Mr. Alejandro Betts. The representative of Chile, also on behalf of Bolivia (Plurinational State of), Chile, Cuba, Ecuador, Nicaragua and Venezuela (Bolivarian Republic of), introduced draft resolution A/AC.109/2011/L.7.
